The first five weeks module of the course gave us an inside view into Pyrotechnics and Atmospherics Effects with tutor Graham Brown.
Graham Brown is a Special Effects Supervisor with over 25 years of experience. He has worked extensively on television programmes and feature films, in the studio and on location, and in a wide variety of genres – period and contemporary, factual and fiction.
Among his many credits are Dr Who, The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Only Fools and Horses, Waking the Dead, Silent Witness, Casualty, EastEnders, Top of the Pops, Holby City, Between The Lines, The Second Coming, the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, the BBC factual programme SAS Desert – Are You Tough Enough? And the BBC’s Children in Need features.
We have been trained at a theoretical and practical level using a wide range of phyro’s from stage to outdoor. During this period we learnt hands on how to create fireballs, dust explosions, bullet hits and a spectacular van explosion with higher explosives. Always safety first!

With Graham we had a large amount of visits to companies in the Special Effects field:
Snow Business, specialised in producing all types of artificial snow for the industry.

Bickers Action who provides a stunt engineering service including full vehicle preparation, full roll cages, camera mounts, vehicle building and manufacture and design of specialist stunt & safety equipment.
Perdix Fire Arms who supply special effects firearms to Film & Television Production Companies worldwide.
We all are grate to Graham teachings and his wife, Pennie Brown, organisation skills, that has brought so much of excitement into our lives.
